RULES OF INTERACTION BETWEEN EDITORS AND AUTHORS (AUTHOR TEAMS) IN SITUATIONS OF ERROR DETECTION BEFORE AND AFTER PUBLICATION OF MATERIALS
1. The editorial staff of the online publication “Vestnik Vyatskogo GATU” (hereinafter referred to as the Journal) and the authors act in a coordinated and open manner in situations of error detection before and after publication of materials.
2. The interaction of editors and authors is based on the following principles:
- respect and professionalism – criticism focuses on the content of the text and the identified inaccuracies, without referring to the personality of the author;
- promptness – identification and elimination of errors as soon as possible after their detection;
- evidence and validity – an indication of an error is accompanied by a clear justification: a reference to an authoritative source, a scientific reference book, the results of fact-checking or a reasoned expert opinion;
- transparency of the process – the author is fully informed about the identified errors and planned corrections, the reasons and grounds for adjustments are explained in detail.
Actions when errors are detected before publication
1. If the author of an article finds errors (phraseological, factual, methodological, computational, bibliographic or ethical) after submitting it to the editorial board of the Journal, he is obliged to immediately notify the responsible editor about this, as well as suggest possible and acceptable options for correcting the detected errors.
2. If errors (phraseological, factual, methodological, computational, bibliographic or ethical) are found by reviewers or editors during the editorial preparation of the article, the editorial staff of the Journal:
- clearly indicates edits in the text of the article or in a separate document;
- provides the author with a reasonable time to review edits and make changes to the text of the article;
- edits can be divided into categories: technical and obvious (typos, grammar), stylistic (reformulations for clarity), factual and semantic (doubts about facts, figures, logic, conclusions).
3. All changes in the author’s materials related to the elimination of errors are coordinated with the authors before the publication of the article. Unilateral interference by the editors of the Journal in the text of an article without the consent of the author is not allowed. Before publication, the final version of the article is sent by the responsible editor to the author for approval and approval.
Actions when errors are detected after publication
1. If an error is detected after the publication of an article, the person who discovered it (author, reader, editor) must inform the editorial board of the Journal by e-mail info@v-vgsha.info. It is necessary to note all detected errors or typos, inaccuracies, etc., even if they are not able to directly affect the interpretation of the research results. Editors should be informed if there are incorrect links in the article, copyright infringement, conflict of interest, or other ethical violations.
2. Upon receiving a message about errors in a published article, the editorial board initiates an additional verification procedure and requests the opinion of the author, editors, and reviewers (if necessary). Minor errors (typos, etc.) can be corrected by post-publication corrections. Significant errors may require the use of a retraction procedure.
3. Possible options for correcting errors in published articles:
- publishing a clarification;
- addition to the article;
- notification of concern;
- retraction (withdrawal of a publication), if an error or violation of publication ethics calls into question the reliability of the conclusions obtained during the research.
4. An error notification indicating the number/year and pages of the issue with the article in which the error was made, a description of the error and the text with the corrected error are posted on the official website of the Journal and/or a PDF file with the article. Readers are given the opportunity to work with the corrected version of the article by posting it on the website.
5. Information about the corrections made in the published article is transmitted to all databases of scientific information, where the Journal is indexed.
The procedure for retracting scientific articles
1. When retracting articles, the editorial board of the Journal is guided by the Rules for revocation (retraction/retraction) of an article from the publication of the Association of Scientific Editors and Publishers (ANRI).
2. A review of the article (retraction) is necessary to correct the published information and notify readers that the article published in the Journal contains serious flaws, erroneous or unreliable data, and violations of publication ethics. Retraction protects the reputation of the journal, which strives to maintain readers’ trust in the quality and content of published scientific works. Retraction is not used as a tool to punish or compromise the authors.
3. The grounds for retraction of a scientific article are:
- incorrect and/or unformulated borrowing (plagiarism) in a published article;
- duplication of an article in several editions;
- self-plagiarism with a large amount of repeatability of research results and text already published in other publications;
- detection of falsifications or fabrications;
- the discovery of serious errors in the publication that cast doubt on its scientific value;
- incorrect composition of the authors;
- hidden conflict of interest;
- re-publication of the article without the author’s consent;
- other violations of publication ethics.
4. If the grounds for retraction of a scientific article are established, the editorial board conducts an investigation (examination) and, if confirmed, retracts the publication. According to the results of the examination, a veto may be imposed on the publication of articles by this author(s) for a certain period of time.
5. The decision to withdraw an article is made by the editorial board of the Journal on the recommendation of the editor–in-chief of the publication, formalized in a protocol with mandatory information: the author’s full name and the title of the article, the title of the journal, the output data of the article, the initiator of the review of the article, the basis for retraction (if plagiarism and duplication are detected – a link to the original source), the date of the decision, a link to the page metadata of the article on the publication’s website, which contains information about the retraction, its cause, and the full text of the article marked “RETRACTED”. The same mark is placed in the Content of the issue. A copy of the minutes of the editorial board meeting is sent to the author (the lead author in case of co-authorship). The authors may disagree with the decision to withdraw, but this does not negate the editors’ right to carry out the procedure.
6. The decision on retraction at the initiative of the editorial board is made taking into account the response of the author of the article, justifying his position on the withdrawal of the article. If the author ignores the editorial board’s request, the editorial board has the right to seek help from the HENRI Council on Ethics of Scientific Publications and/or to withdraw the publication without taking into account the author’s opinion.
7. If the author (co-authors) find it necessary to withdraw the article, they contact the editorial office, explaining the reason for their decision in a reasoned manner. Next, the editorial staff performs text retrogression. 8. Information about the retracted articles is sent to the Council on Ethics of Scientific Publications of HENRI and the scientific information databases in which the Journal is indexed, for inclusion in a single database of retracted articles. The recalled articles and links to them are excluded from the RSCI and are not included in the calculation of indicators.
